When you buy a home in Erie, there’s more to moving day than changing your address. You’ll also want to make sure your utilities are transferred or connected before closing.

Penelec is the primary electric distribution utility throughout much of Erie County. Before closing, confirm whether the property is in Penelec’s service area and arrange for service to begin in your name.
Natural Gas — National Fuel 1-800-545-7741
National Fuel Gas provides natural gas service throughout much of the Erie area. Erie County also has some smaller gas providers, so always verify the provider for the specific property.
Water & Sewer — It Depends on the Property
Water and sewer service can vary depending on the municipality. In the City of Erie and surrounding communities, services may be provided by Erie Water Works 1-814-870-8000 or the individual municipality. Some homes may also have private wells or septic systems, particularly in more rural areas.
